Following a highly embarrassing 4-0 loss to Australia in The Ashes, pressure is mounting on Joe Root to step down as England’s Test captain.
“Joe had a really good year with the bat prior to The Ashes, but this tour has really amplified some issues with his captaincy” an English cricket insider told Seems Legit.
“He’s not the only one to blame, but for one thing, he clearly didn’t tell his bowlers that your foot actually needs to be behind that white line if you want to get someone out.
“The selection panel is also looking at a change of direction in which the team would be attempting to win games, so it would make sense to have a captain who’s onboard with this new ideology as well.
“Many have said there’s no obvious choice to replace him, but one name seems to be rising above the others.
“To me, Extras is the obvious choice.
“There may have been a lot of changes to the side through this year, but Extras was one constant no matter what the conditions or opposition.
“Although not known for a vocal leadership style, Extras can be relied upon game in game out, and being our third leading run scorer for 2021 as well pretty much seals it for me”.
Seems Legit has tried to get in touch with Extras for an interview, but so far we’re yet to receive a response.
