After taking a number of Australian wickets only to have them disallowed due to front foot no balls, England’s team attended an introduction to cricket seminar.
“Oh, so your foot needs to be behind that line?” asked Ollie Robinson.
“And that’s every single time right?” said the inquisitive Ben Stokes.
After explaining what those white lines on the pitch mean, the course went into previously unexplored detail about catching, following several embarrassing drops in the Ashes so far.
“So it can’t touch the ground…like at all?” enquired alleged wicket keeper, Jos Buttler, while fumbling the pad and pencil he was attempting to take notes on.
The instructor then attempted to describe how the scoring worked.
“I thought it was like golf” said opening batsman, Rory Burns.
“You know, the lower the better”.
After this was corrected, spinner Jack Leach asked why he was dropped if he scored 102 runs off just 13 overs, before being advised that he gave those runs to Australia, and when you’re bowling, it is actually a bit like golf, where the fewer points (or ‘runs’) scored the better.
While a spokesperson for the team said the course went very well, several witnesses reported seeing members of the English cricket team still looking quite confused about what they were told.
